Smoothies which boost your immune system are always a great idea. Smoothies are an amazing way to kick-start your day in a healthy way. We’ve all been paying a few too many visits to the fridge and this means we’re not always making the right food choices to keep up healthy. And, with winter fast approaching, we all need to make sure we have a little extra nutrients in our systems.
Smoothies are jam-packed with health benefits, they’re filling and they’re easy to make. It’s as simple as throwing together a delicious peanut butter smoothie for a protein boost or a mango and orange smoothie for a Vitamin C punch.
Here are our top smoothies for a healthy start to the day:
Carrots and ginger offer an anti-oxidant immune boosting combination to help you fight off seasonal bugs. This recipe produces two smoothies. So either prepare it for the family or freeze the second helping for a second dose later in the week.
- Half a teaspoon of fresh ginger
- ½ cup of carrot juice
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- A cup of pineapple
- 1 ripe banana
- ¼ teaspoon of turmeric
- A cup of milk
Place all of the ingredients into a food processor or blender and mix on high until combined thoroughly. Drink fresh or freeze in portions for later use.
Vitamin C Booster
- One cup of water
- A chopped and cored apple
- 2 peeled and washed carrots
- 1 orange
Place all the ingredients in a blender and mix until smooth. Optional extra of ½ teaspoon turmeric can be added.
- Half a cup of milk
- 150ml vanilla yogurt
- 1 cup of orange juice
- 2 tablespoons honey
- Half a cup of oats
Blend all the ingredients together until smooth. Use within one day.
- 1 ripe banana
- One cup of seasonal fruits such a strawberries, melon or blueberries
- Two cups washed baby spinach
- 3 tablespoons of lemon juice
- 2 cups of water
Place ingredients in a blender and mix until smooth. Can be frozen for later use.
