There’s no doubt that the current global coronavirus pandemic has caused widespread panic. In a bid to flatten the virus curve in South Africa, a 21-day lockdown was implemented from midnight on 26 March. There is still a great concern that shopping for essentials can be dangerous. At Karaglen SuperSpar we’ve implanted stringent safety processes to protect our shoppers and staff.
- Shoppers will be asked to sanitise their hands and trolleys before entering the store. We will provide this service, free of charge.
- A limited number of shoppers will be allowed into the store and any one point.
- We ask those in the store to stay at least one meter away from fellow shoppers at all times.
- We have placed well distanced mats at the entrance to Spar, we ask customers to strictly adhere to the one customer per mat rule.
- Please do not shop in groups. As far as possible, please stick to one person per family.
- During the lockdown period we will strictly be dealing with debit and credit card payments for our ORDER-COLLECT-PAY platform.
- Safety screen barriers have been installed between shoppers and cashiers.
- All staff adhere to guidelines set out by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for wearing masks.
Here are a few guidelines so that you can safely do your shopping during lockdown:
Food is Safe
Stores like ours adhere to very strict health and safety guidelines, even when there isn’t a global pandemic. Despite our best efforts, viruses such as the novel coronavirus Covid-19 have been known to live on surface areas for anything from a few hours to a few days. Remember that when you go shopping you need to limit the number of contact points you encounter. Avoid touching multiple foods and food surfaces during your trip. Rather only pick up the item you are going to buy. When picking up your fresh food item from our selection of fruits and veggies use the available plastic bags.
Before you go shopping
Before you leave the home to get essential food items make sure that you have a list of everything you need. We want to help as many customers as possible while at the same time limiting the time any one person spends in the store. Sit down with the family and plan what you want to have for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the week ahead. Get enough fresh produce such as fruits and veggies to boost your immune system. Weekly shopping is recommended at a time like this.
Best Times For Shopping
Karaglen Shopping Centre is allowed trade from 8am to 6pm Monday to Sunday. The best time for shopping is either early in the morning or late in the afternoon. We have a consistent flowing queue of shoppers waiting at the door. Our queues move relatively fast but shop access preference will be given to the elderly.
Focus and Patience
Your shopping list will help you stay focused in the store. Make sure that you have a shopping plan before you head out as this will limit the time you spend out of your home. Start by getting together all of your non-perishables then head to the cleaning products, next, its fresh produce, your veggies, meats and dairy, and lastly your frozen goods.
Let Us Do Your Shopping
If you’re really dreading your next shopping trip, why not let us do the shopping for you. Our ORDER-COLLECT-PAY platform was launched after lockdown and it has made shopping easier than ever. Simply fill out the online shopping list, wait for us to let you know that your shopping is ready to collect and arrive to pay for your groceries. It’s really as easy as that. And, you will still be able to claim SPAR Rewards and Loyalty Kard points on ORDER-COLLECT-PAY purchases as long as you provide us with your card details when you order.
